The history contained on these pages will be sourced from various people, publications and authorities. As a result it is likely to continue expanding for some time, as information, photographs and peoples memories are coerced into use.

Page One - Whittington from the Doomsday Book to the Lonsdale Hundreds

Edward Baines produced his two volume work, "History, Directory and Gazetteer of the County Palatine of Lancaster" in the years 1824 (vol 1) and 1825 (vol 2). Information of interest to those looking into the early history of Whittington, and its place in the Lonsdale Hundreds, has been taken from these pages. Follow this link to view this section of the History Pages on this Website.

Page Two - Whittington Hall

The area surrounding Whittington is the home of very many country houses, including castles, of both historic and architectural significance. Whittington Hall, as it now stands, fits into the latter category. Although it is not of great antiquity it is of interest in an architectural historical context. Follow this link to view the pages which we have produced so far.

Page Four - Parish Registers in the 17th Century

The Parish Registers of the 17th Century where transcribed into print, at some date which we still have to determine. They have been donated to the website and are now available by following this link to the registers.

Page Five - The Roll of Honour of both Whittington and Arkholme

Whittington has a Roll of Honour for both the I World War and the II World War whilst Arkholme has one for the I World War only. For those who would like to see the members of our villages who served their country follow this link. This page may also be of interest to people researching their family history.

Page Six - Residents of Whittington in the 1930's.

Here we have a map of the village with all the occupied houses, in the 1930's. Follow this link. This is another page which may be of some interest to people having family in the village between the World Wars.
